Well, Saturday certainly brought a lot of surprises to the football world. We already know that the NFL is the best sport in American because of it’s unpredictability, but this is ridiculous.

The Arizona Cardinals were supposed to get blown out by the Carolina Panthers in Carolina. They didn’t. In fact, they blew out the Panthers.

The Baltimore Ravens were supposed to lose a tough game to the Tennessee Titans. They didn’t. They won a tough game. And so the #1 seed in the AFC and the #2 seed in the NFC fell. And the Arizona Cardinals – yes the Arizona Cardinals – are now just one game from possibly appearing in the Super Bowl.

So how did the Cards and the Ravens do it? Well, the Ravens did it the way they have all season. The Cards, on the other hand, did it like they haven’t done it all season.

The Ravens played tough bend but don’t break defense for 60 minutes. They also feasted on turnovers. They also got some lucky breaks. But this is how the Ravens have won games all season.

The Cards, meanwhile, won a bunch of games early in the season by throwing the ball all over the field and outscoring their opponents. But that’s all changed since they started playing in the playoffs.

The Cards have suddenly found a very good defense and they have also found a running game. They are actually winning like a playoff team should win. And, of course, they still have their lethal passing attack to light up the scoreboard too.

And the major force in their passing game -besides Kurt Warner – is Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald has been an absolute stud since the playoffs started. Actually he’s been a stud since he came into the league, but the last couple of weeks he has looked like the best receiver in the NFL, and he probably is.

So, who will the Ravens take on in the Championship Game? Well, we’ll take a look at that tomorrow.

After the way the games turned out on Saturday, I don’t have too much confidence that my thoughts and picks for today will be all that great. After all, I missed on both games. At least I was somewhat right about what each team had to do to be successful.

Anyway, let’s get to the two games for today. Both of these games should be awesome to watch.

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants

This should be an absolute war. But I think the Eagles are going to come out on top. Here’s why:

These playoffs have been all about the team that is playing the best at a given time. The Philadelphia Eagles are certainly the team that is playing the best right now. But more than this, I think the Eagles will shutdown the Giants’ running game and I don’t think Eli will be able to win the game for his team. Contrary to the ignorant belief in the media, Manning has never won a big game for the Giants. It’s always been the defense and the running game.

Well, I bet the Eagles make the Giants one dimensional. I bet the Eagles take away the running game and they make Eli beat them. I don’t think he can.

San Diego Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers

Two weeks ago this would’ve seemed like a cake-walk for the Steelers. Now, not the case.

With the way this playoff season has gone, the Chargers might just come into this game as the favorite. One thing is for sure: If the Chargers want to win this game then they better not turn the ball over. Like the Ravens, the Steelers are successful when they get turnovers. Without turnovers, I just don’t think the Steelers can win this game.

But can the Chargers protect the ball. With the weather that’s expected, I doubt it. Plus, quite honestly, I just don’t think every home team can possibly lose in the divisional playoffs.
